R.E.M.
You wake up in the morning and you are sad. You make a cup of coffee and you are sad. Your pile of laundry is so high and not nearly as high as your to-do list, and you are sad. But for most people who have depression, it’s not the sadness that really gets to them. It’s everything else. The mess, the exhaustion, the apathy about everything. And the endless advice on how to be happier that surrounds you constantly. ‘R.E.M.’ is a portrait of everyday depression that shows, as best it can, what it feels like to be consumed by the pile of clothes on your bedroom floor.
